Other Prehospital care programmes:
Since the advent of the program in 2007, the PCP has developed and grown beyond measure. As a pioneering program we are immensely proud to be in a position to publish our working model for a Prehospital Care Programme highlighting what we do best here at Barts and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry and hoping to encourage others in their pursuit of developing similar programmes.
We have created an easy to read handbook on how to start up your own Prehospital care programme using our successful model: download it here.

HYMS:
Monthly academic forums are held in both Hull and York and are run by consultants, experts in the emergency care or occasional senior students presenting case studies. These sessions can be lecture-based, interactive or practical. HeartStart scheme allows students to gain qualifications and teach Basic Life Support (BLS) within the community, as well as run refresher BLS sessions to help out Phase I students with their exams. Two responder schemes – Community First Responder (CFR) for 1st and 2nd years and Lincolnshire Integrated Voluntary Emergency Service (LIVES) for the upper years provide a great opportunity to serve the public, get additional practical training and obtain experience in the pre-hospital setting by attending medical emergencies within their respective area. PCP also offers support and guidance to those interested in joining the military, as well as can help with commission during the undergraduate study. Other events run by the programme include volunteering for London Marathon to provide first aid and sports massage for charities, running a RAG (raising and giving) week 48-hour CPR marathon, as well as the second National Pre-hospital Care Conference, which was hosted by HYMS in January 2014.

SOUTH LONDONThe South London Prehospital Care Programme was formed by the amalgamation of the King’s College London and St George’s Medical School Prehospital Care Programmes which were both started in 2011. By participating in the SL PCP, students are given the opportunity to accompany Paramedics either on a Fast Response Unit (FRU) or an ambulance. The South London PCP holds a monthly Academic Forum at Guy’s Campus, London Bridge for its students and any interested parties.
SOUTHAMPTONThe Southampton programme is still underdevelopment however students wishing to get involved in prehospital care are encouraged to join the First Responder team, and they hope to be able to provide opportunities to observe with an Ambulance / Rapid Response Vehicle in the near future.
